| The State of Vermont entered into a contract with The Standard Insurance Company to provide a Long Term Disability (LTD) benefit plan. The LTD plan is an income replacement benefit which provides financial protection for you and your family by paying a portion of your income while you are disabled. The plan specifics are as follows:
Plan Effective Date - February 1, 1997
Eligible Group(s)
Employees who are not eligible to be represented by the VSEA, including Classified, Confidential, Elected and Appointed Officials, and Exempt employees.
Eligibility Period
For employees in an eligible group on February 1, 1997: None.
For employees hired after February 1, 1997: Benefits are effective on the first of the month following one year of continuous active employment.
Monthly Benefit
66 2/3% of monthly earnings. Minimum benefit is $100; Maximum benefit is $6,000 per month.
Benefit Waiting Period
180 days. Benefits begin the day after the end of the 180 day waiting period.
Benefit Offsets
The LTD plan integrates with Social Security and State disability retirement benefits.
This plan will replace 66 2/3% of monthly income for as long as the disability continues, up to age 67 for most employees. The plan covers all eligible employees regardless of length of service, eligibility for disability retirement, or amount of sick leave accumulation. Employees with no sick leave plan or small balances will now have comprehensive income protection through the Long Term Disability Plan.
