Classified Pay Plan
The Compensation Unit maintains a pay structure for Classified State employees with a total of 32 pay grades - each with a defined entry rate and maximum rate. Utilizing a point-factor job classification system, each job class within the Classified Service is assigned to one of these pay grades by the Classification Unit. Each of the 32 Pay Grades is further divided into 15 steps. New employees start at Step I in the assigned pay grade and typically serve a six-month probationary period. Upon successfully completing this probationary period the employee moves to Step 2 of the Pay Grade and continues to advance through the steps based upon a time-in-step system as outlined in the current bargaining agreement.
