Defensive Driving (Online)
This course will satisfy the requirements noted in the Governor’s Fleet Safety Executive Order No. 04-93 and Administrative Bulletin 2.3. State employees required to take this course include: employees who operate a state vehicle and employees who operate their private vehicle for greater than 2000 reimbursable miles annually. This course is optional for employees who do not fall into the above categories. Employees who work in Public Safety or who have taken this course in the last ten years are exempt.
Drivers get practical information and techniques to avoid accidents, and to choose safe, responsible, and lawful driving behaviors. Topics include:
- The difference between good driving and defensive driving
- The six most common driving errors
- How to drive safely in changing road conditions
- How physical conditions, driver distractions, emotions, alcohol and drugs affect driving
- The benefits of occupant restraint
A Certificate of Completion will be issued upon passing all of the modules for this course. Access to a printer is required for printing the Certificate of Completion.
A registered DDC Certificate issued by the National Safety Council is also available for purchase.
To register for this course, complete and return either of the Defensive Driving Registration (On-line Course) applications (Word or PDF. format) found at http://www.bgs.state.vt.us/risk/training.html. Upon receipt of a completed registration application, Risk Management will forward instructions for logging on to the on-line course. A computer with sound and player software such as Adobe Flash are required to take the on-line course. There are no fees for taking this course.
