| Vermont State Government is committed to providing employees, at all levels, a working environment free of harassment and illegal discrimination, and fostering a skilled and diverse workforce. By raising diversity awareness in the workplace, the State does more than simply meet its legal obligations. A diverse workforce allows agencies and departments to better serve their client communities through improvements in planning and problem solving thanks to a diversity of experience, insight, and approach, as well as improvements in client services and relationships, which come with being reflective of the increasingly diverse communities that we serve.
The Workforce Equity & Diversity section provides advice and technical assistance to managers and supervisors regarding the to Americans with Disability Act (ADA) reasonable accommodation process, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) matters, employment issues related to Workers' Compensation, Reduction in Force (medical), and unpaid medical leaves of absence. Information and training is furnished for all these topics and for compliance with the non-discrimination provisions of federal and state employment statutes, regulations, and policies.
This section guides, directs, assists, and monitors the administration of State of Vermont's affirmative action program, which includes, in addition to ensuring fair and equal treatment for all executive branch employees, working with agencies and departments to ensure that affirmative action and diversity are integral parts of their workforce planning, recruitment, promotion, transfer, training, and culture.
