Some jobs require that applicants demonstrate keyboarding skills at certain levels (usually between 35 and 45 words per minute). Applicants do not need to take a typing test before applying for a job posting. However, if typing is a requirement for a specific position, applicants must take and pass the test prior to the closing date of the job posting.
Effective January 2008, the State of Vermont implemented a new online typing test. As a result of the new test, old typing scores are no longer valid. Applicants who took a typing test prior to January 2008 will be required to retake and pass the new test.
When an applicant applies for a job posting that requires a typing score, (s)he will be provided a link to the online typing test by the Recruiter assigned to the job posting. The typing test can be accessed on any computer that has an Internet connection. The typing test can also be accessed on the public computers at the Recruitment Services Office at 144 State Street, Montpelier, VT.
Applicants must provide their name, email, mailing address and telephone number for identification purposes. This information must be the same as the information provided on the online job application. Applicants must certify that they are the actual test taker and acknowledge that information may be verified by the State of Vermont.
For questions regarding the typing test, please contact the Recruitment Services Staff at 1-800-640-1657.
