Understanding Your Benefits as a State Employee
woman smiling The State of Vermont boasts a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide maximum financial security for permanent state employees and their families. Salaries are competitive in the Vermont marketplace for most jobs and cost of living increases are provided, generally, on a yearly basis.

You may choose from among several health plan options. The State pays the majority of the premium cost for both employees and their dependents. The State also offers life insurance coverage, retirement, deferred compensation, and tuition assistance. In addition, a flexible benefits plan allows you to save pretax dollars for child care, elder care or medical expenses.

Most employees can join and be represented by the Vermont State Employees Association, which is the union for state employees. Assistance for work related or personal issues is offered through an Employee Assistance Program.
