Legal Issues
Drug Free Workplace
The State of Vermont is responsible for maintaining safe, efficient working conditions for its employees by providing a drug-free workplace. State employees shall not engage in the unlawful manufacture, distribution, possession or use of controlled substances (drugs) on the job or on any State work site. An employee who is under the influence of any drug on the job may pose serious safety and health risks not only to the user but to co-workers and the general public at large.
Personnel Policy 17.3

Smoke Free Workplace
It is the State’s goal to provide healthy and safe work environments for all Vermont State employees, to ensure that the health hazard created by second hand smoke is removed from the workplace, and to guarantee that regulations restricting workplace smoking are implemented in a timely manner.
Personnel Policy 17.4

Bloodborne Pathogens
It is the policy of the State of Vermont to limit all occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials since any exposure could result in transmission of bloodborne pathogens which could lead to disease or death. Each agency/department shall make the hepatitis B vaccine and vaccination series available at no cost to employees who are reasonably expected to be at risk of occupational exposure.
