Understand and observe the policies highlighted in that section. Every department has a culture or the unwritten rules of the work environment. Observe and listen to learn what the culture in your department is like. If you have been assigned a mentor or orientation guide, this person may provide valuable information about the unspoken rules.
As you start your new role, remember that although you have much to contribute, you also have a lot to learn. Be patient and find out how you fit in. As you demonstrate responsibility and capability you will be offered more challenging assignments and greater independence. To be successful as a State employee, it is critical that you establish a solid foundation as a contributing and positive team player early in your career.
